It was always about the adventure. Although we met whilst studying Fashion/Textiles at University we’d never had any training in hatmaking. Deciding that we wanted to work together and with extremely limited funds we thought accessories would be a good way to start. We used anything we could get our hands on or buy very inexpensively. It excited us to transform the everyday into interesting and joyful pieces. Our first hats happened because we found a stack of straw hoods in the back of a shop in Brick Lane market. We used layers of car spray paint and tied knotted cotton fishing net from Lawrence Corner, an amazing shop selling 2nd hand utility and military clothing and assorted paraphernalia. Thelma was working in a jewellery shop in Covent Garden and the owner let us put them in the shop.

They were an instant hit!
